Calculated Fields

A calculated field is a form field whose value comes from a formula that uses other answers, such as a total price or a quiz score.

How calculated fields work

You write a formula that refers to other fields. When a respondent changes an answer, the form computes the formula again and shows the result. Common operations are addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and rounding.

Examples

  • Order form: quantity multiplied by unit price gives a line total.
  • Quote request: the number of rooms multiplied by a rate per room gives an estimate.
  • Quiz: the points from each answer added together give a final score.

Why it matters

A calculated field shows people a number while they fill in the form, such as a price or a score. You do not need to compute it by hand after the form is submitted, so there are fewer mistakes.
